ASLTW: Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Life has a weird way of reuniting you with your favourite people. Sometimes you haven’t spoke for months but a single moment creates immense euphoria.
Everyday, I will attempt to create a professional, articulate, hilarious and modern take on my day of thought or action. Inspired by Casey Neistat who created a vlog everyday for 450 straight days. I will call it: 365MeThoughts

This entry combines two days into one again. The content of today in particular is not covered, but the sentiment will captured in great depth.
Pictured above are two of my absolute favourite people. I can’t have imagined my first year especially in the Commuters’ Society any differently. Aziz I haven’t seen nor spoke to since I have been back, but now a fully fledged graduate, I’m sure he’s paving a perfectly sound life for himself. Today, we’ll focus on Nikos, but more on that a bit later.
Last night, I frequented Drapers— the university club located on campus. It’s not the greatest night out but it was worth it to see all my friends again. It’s the one place where everyone can come and have a good time. I can’t say I missed the sticky floor, uncomfortable dancing and being an unfortunate onlooker in people’s physical engagements, but I guess it’s nice to be back.
I must admit, when I saw my friends after so long, I went a bit crazy being reunited. It happens outside Scape accommodation block on Monday with Abdul, Moses and Adem. It also happened last night.
Max (pictured above) spent a lot of time chilling and hanging out last year. I slept on his floor a few times and we exchanged deep chats about tomatoes (I don’t know why I remember that). He’s turned into a hipster, while it was inevitable, it’s an interesting change. I don’t know that I quite agree with the early 2000’s boy band curtain-hairstyle look but each to their own.
Max and I barely spoke the whole night, just danced the night away. It was like I hadn’t left. It was incredible to see him as well as Oli and Trinity. While few words were exchanged, the emotion and atmosphere encapsulated the feeling of being reunited.
I haven’t quite forgotten about my study abroad, and Sam (left) reignited the flame. I met him in Los Angeles when I visited with George, Elena and Katie during the past November. It was amazing to find out he would be coming to QMUL for study abroad.
This picture is especially important because of Kaylie (pictured above) who named it the (Sam)wich. I wasn’t impressed but I suppose it made the blog so I guess the joke is on me.
Sam (right) and Kaylie are both my QMSU study abroad ‘buddies’, I invited them out to come and join in the celebrations and I think they enjoyed themselves. It was great to hang out with American friends especially so soon after being re-introduced with solely British faces.
This is Jason. I have a lot to thank Jason for. He helped me launch my wider journalism career by allowing me to write the feature for the President Nasheed keynote speech in February 2017. We’ve always had a great relationship and I hope to explain my Project to him further and I’m sure he will support me throughout.
Dancing along in Drapers, sober as could be, was just a moment that encapsulated the time when we had our first conversation about equality in the QMGS. It was the pub crawl… I was the only one of non-white ethnicity. I didn’t drink that night, I’m strictly orange juice at all times. I went for the company, he respected that and the rest is history. The moral of that story is just to be yourself and you never know what opportunities might present itself.
That was last night. I had fun. Bought some drinks for other, had Jason buy me an OJ. Drove home and slept. Attended lectures and then met Niko.
I remember distinctly last year that Niko was having some trouble adapting to London life. He’s Greek and travelled to London for his undergraduate neuroscience degree. It was already a huge feat for him to take that leap of faith but I see him now and I’m so humbled at how much he has achieved.
We talked today about my travels, his advancements and I struggled to hold back my emotions. Sidenote: I saw him last night at Drapers and it was so amazing, we didn’t chat then but made up for it today.
I think what amazes me about Niko is that he is progressing and improving and yet he thinks he is staying in the same place. It’s a brilliant quality because you’re never satisfied and want to be better.
Moral of the story: be more like Niko and take chances that scare you.
Life is just a series of morals I’m slowly realising…
