Satisfaction, complacency and change are three words that define the opponents of 2018.

Everyday, I will attempt to create a professional, articulate, hilarious and modern take on my day of thought or action. Inspired by Casey Neistat who created a vlog everyday for 450 straight days. I will call it: 365MeThoughts

2017 can be summed up in one word — progressive. I made progress. I’m not overly-content with the progress but it’s progress nonetheless.

I’m proud of some aspects of my life, I’m disappointed in others. I’m not surprised at my disappoint and I’m surprised at some of my achievements. I see it as all relative to the path… the process if you will.

Let’s start with my golf. I spoke about my golf yesterday. It hasn’t been the fireworks it once was in 2015. Important to remember I had a hard academic year in 2016 and a difficult adjustment to university life in 2017. Could 2018 be the year? Fresh off the plane from the USA, dusted off the cobwebs and I was straight to the course. I plan to practice but not care as much about my performance. I will use golf to relax and distract me from university work and other commitment. As Happy Gilmore once said, I will find my happy place playing golf. I have set no goals in golf but to have fun and enjoy my time on the links and parklands.

I’m not one to set resolutions because I never feel I need to solve anything drastic in my life. I will just continue with old goals and new focii. With that caveat, my physique has always been an insecurity. It is loosely linked to golf and power, which I have been lacklustre in for the best part of my whole amateur career. Mostly, I want to feel healthy and full of energy. I will find this the same way I did in Austin when I went to the gym. I want to stretch the work longer days, 14 or 16 hours. I need energy for that. I didn’t do this well in 2017. 2018 can only improve.

Social media and online presence is a key motivator for 2018. I call 2017, in some ways, an experimental year. I achieved a lot of success in a field that was completely unknown to me the year prior. I excelled at something that I suspected I had proficiency in doing but never took the leap. I want to build a personal brand. I want to use social media to assist me. I want to propel my journalism career further. But I need a personal brand. I know what it is, I just need to get it in the public eye. Get noticed, recognised and start to lend my hand in the world. This is the main mission for 2018.

MExU Project Launch in November 2017 in Austin, TX

Finally, the MExU Project. This is my baby. I made it and I’m excited to pursue it and fully launch it in 2018. I am currently developing the website and I should be done with that by the end of the week (update to come). These visions will only come true if every cog and mini-project takes place correctly. That’s why I’m pessimistic these visions will materialise. While that demotivates me, the purpose of the Project wasn’t to be known, but to make an impact. If that is done, even to the smallest degree, it is a success. 2018 is an integral year for that, while the Project is in its youth.

Yes, I could have done better last year. Like I said, I achieved a lot. I tried things and adapted to situations that I couldn’t before. I battled and conquered anxiety worries and travelled alone to the USA to complete study abroad. Internally, I’m never satisfied. I always could have done better.

For 2018, I must accept and welcome change whilst pushing away complacency and the urge to be satisfied. It’ll be hard, but what is life if not a teensy bit difficult.
