‘The community of a nation during sporting events bridges any barriers. Now, how do we translate that to every day life?’
This photo taken on my first appearance playing football since the ‘toe-punt’ days of secondary school.
I wore my golf shoes, a London Marathon volunteer t-shirt and gym shorts.
This didn’t go top-corner, instead I dragged it bottom corner.
A goal nonetheless.
England scored one with a penalty created and scored by Harry Kane — leading goalscorer of the tournament and England’s captain.
Colombia scored one late into additional time in the second half — crushing the hopes of England fans across the country.
It was 1–1.
The streets outside dead quiet.
Just the rustle of the leaves.
But nothing significant.
A ghost town.
England had chances during extra time with Colombia making their presence known.
Down to penalties.
The saving grace being that we weren’t playing the Germans.
They exited before seeing the knockout stages.
It’s a World Cup of upsets.
England victorious over Colombia and into the quarter finals.
During this endless affair, I had to pack.
Pack for my trip tomorrow.
This is why this blog is short and obvious.
I’m excited from the energy celebrating with my Mum.
I’m excited for my dissertation research.
As well as seeing friends and family.
My voice will need some recovery.
Perhaps a silent ten-hour flight with plenty of airplane water will do the trick.
We’ll find out.
Congrats Pickford, Kane, Dier and the rest of the England team.
I’ll watch the Sweden match from Fort Worth, TX.
Voice loss confirmed.
